1st Annual Orange County Model United Nations Conference

October 9ith, 2010

Dear Advisors and Delegates,

OCMUN logoIt is with great pleasure we invite you to the 1st annual Orange County Model United Nations Conference. The conference is a joint sponsored event through Irvine Valley College and Golden West College and will be held on October 9th, 2010.

The conference will be located in Huntington Beach at Golden West College. Please visit our website at www.OCMUN.org for information regarding delegate handbooks, committee topics, hotel possibilities, and weekend activities. Regarded as one of the most beautiful campuses in Southern California, Golden West College is committed to excellence and student success through personal growth, career exploration and academic achievement. Our mission is to create an intellectually and culturally stimulating learning environment for students and the community.

OCMUN will be staffed by experienced collegiate students. The Secretariat has over 20 years of experience between us. We have served in leadership roles in our delegations, have worked at conferences around the United States, and have held leadership roles at PAXMUN and other local conferences. All of us will be using our experience to make sure that all delegates have an educational and fun experience. With National Model United Nations Washington DC and American Model United Nations International at Atlanta just around the corner, OCMUN serves as a one day conference not only to familiarize new delegates with the process, but to challenge returning and advanced level delegates in smaller committees.

This year’s conference will focus on the theme of New Beginnings: Balancing Globalization and State Sovereignty. It will consist of four committees including General Assembly Second Committee, UNICEF, IAEA, and Security Council. We strongly encourage co-delegations in the GA as to promote increased awareness of student’s roles and to foster relationships within the team. The Security Council will be a mandatory co-delegate committee as to give students more opportunity to compete at a higher level.

Through this preliminary invitation we would like to get an estimate of how many schools and delegates will be participating this year in order to thoroughly prepare. We ask that you or your head delegate contact us at info@ocmun.org with the following information:

  1. Name and contact information
  2. College
  3. Attending?
    1. Attending
    2. Might attend
    3. Not attending
  4. Approximate number of delegates
  5. Ranked 1-8 country preference

Those that respond and make a payment for your delegate estimate before July 5th, 2010 will receive the benefit of an early registration fee of twenty dollars per delegate. Any payment thereafter up until the day before the conference will be twenty-five dollars. Late-registration will be thirty dollars per delegate.

Sincerely,
